Bowery Poetry Club, Lower East Side
New York - March 2007
On my pilgrimage to find the site of the gone-but-not-forgotten CBGB’s, I came across this charming oasis. Every Tuesday night they host a poetry slam, and the winner takes home a Scrabble board. How cool is that? And check out this suave offering—Bowery Women Poems, with some of today’s most talented women. I saw one of the contributors, Ishle Yi Park, perform her work at the University of Utah; she is amazing.
The Bowery Poetry Club is across the street from where CBGB’s used to be; all that’s left now is this street sign:

We did eventually find the CBGB store; my friend had her nose pierced across the street. Cliche, yes, but unforgettable!
