So it just dawned on me that it is almost two a.m. and therefore already my birthday.
I stopped to think how old that meant I was now, and I realized I was 47.
Then I thought that was weird because that meant I was 46 yesterday, but I’ve felt 47 for months. Because I’m a decade baby, born in 1960, I always feel as old as whatever year it is, pretty much starting in January.
When people would ask me how old I was, I’d automatically think “forty-seven” or whatever age corresponded to the current year. Then I’d have to think about what month it was, and if it was currently before or after June, before I could come up with an answer.
I’m pretty sure it’s not that difficult for everyone to answer when asked her age.
(Also, the verb tenses in this post are making me feel a little loopy. Then again, it is nearly 2 am.)
I’d guess this photo is circa 1964, taken in Roseburg, Oregon. And I’d also guess it was taken by my dad, since he was the one who seemed in charge of the camera.

I get pretty confused about my age if someone asks me how old my sister is first. She’s 20 months younger so between March and July she’s nominally only 1 year younger. Generally, lately I’ve been forgetting how old I am (31 for another 5 weeks!).
