Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps (ROTC-SLC)

Absolutely the best part of the Pride Parade (though the people watching is fun, too!)06-03-07_1105.jpg

These performers get better every year. The Righteously Outrageous Twirling Club of Salt Lake City (ROTC-SLC) brought the biggest cheers from the audience as they strutted through their campy routine. They were GOOD!

The parade is always led by the motorcycle police officers in synchronized formation as they come down the street. It’s beautiful to watch their solemn pride and carefully executed moves. Right behind them are the “Dykes on Bikes”; women riding anything from a Harley to a Vespa (almost). Maybe it’s because it’s always at the beginning, but whenever I see the D on B I get goosebumps. Then I get teary. It just makes my heart happy to see these people FREE in public, if only for the morning.

Great way to spend a Sunday morning, and my birthday, too!

I love that the police open the parade. To me, it says “Hey, we are alright with whomever you love, we just want you to be good citizens.”

The DoB always me cry too. But then, I’m embarrassingly prone to crying at parades. I’m a dork like that. Good company, yo.
