The much anticipated seventh installment of the Harry Potter series arrived on our doorstep Saturday around 1:00 pm. Since Wm is an exceptionally fast reader, the volume goes first to him.
He settles down to immerse himself in Harry’s adventure, and has finished the book by that evening, so it passes to me.
I’m not quite the speed reader Wm is, so though I start the book Saturday night, I only get through the first chapter before I go to sleep. I finished it Monday evening, doing nothing but read it much of Sunday and Monday after I come home from work.
I LOVE that this book breaks all book selling records. People say that they are happy that the Harry Potter series has sparked an interest in reading; I love that it has made it socially acceptable to go a little gaga over a book (or seven).
There was a time when I knew kids who couldn’t imagine that anyone would read a book for pleasure—even anticipate a book’s publishing date. Now, even for those who aren’t “readers,” the idea of loving a book or choosing to read as an interesting, enjoyable pastime is a concept they have witnessed. It’s a legitimate concept.
My favorite chapter? Chapter 33 – The Prince’s Tale.
I adore this series—there are few books I reread (outside of classics) but I’ve reread all the Harry Potter books so far, except for this one. But that’s not for long.
WEATHER NOTE: At 1:15 am Tuesday morning it’s 84 frickin’ degrees outside. I hate hot weather.

I’m so glad you posted this. I’ve seen a few people complaining about the “hype” and that just makes me sad. I love that people are stopping everything else they are doing to READ and then they are talking to each other about it. I think it’s a fantastic thing!

Loved the book!

Loved it and what’s wrong with a bit of hype now and again when it is deserved?
