Woven dishtowels by Ann M. Nelson of Ann’s Raggedy Weaving
While I’m not done with handspindling (and may never be) I’m increasingly intrigued by the prospect of joining the guild of handspinners on wheels. I love the contemplative nature, the history, the beauty and the concept. I’m not ready for one just yet, but I’m opening myself to the possibility.
I’ve read countless blog posts from spinners about choosing a new wheel, and find myself leaning heavily toward a Schacht Matchless, though the portability of a Lendrum DT is tempting also.
I know the Schacht is expensive, and would, ideally, like to find a used one, but that’s nigh impossible. So perhaps I set up a spinning wheel fund and squirrel away soap sales toward this dream. That may be the way I go.
Any advice? I visited Three Wishes and spoke to Kristine about wheels, and also placed some soap there on consignment. I can take my sales profit in store credit, and she does sell Schachts, though not Lendrums. I plan to sign up for her next class if it fits my schedule.
As promised, I’ve posted a photo of the beautiful dish towels I purchased at the Great Basin Fiber Arts Fair from the weaver in the booth next to mine. They’re just lovely, in soft rose and purple.

I don’t think you can go wrong with the Schacht.

Spinning on a wheel is so much fun and I love the spinning guild. I must, seeing as I was talked into being president this year. We would love to have you!
