Just in case you think I’m not out there earning my rep as a Rockin’ Girl Blogger, may I present–

I heard about this show only a couple of days ago, and couldn’t find anyone who wanted/was able to go with me. What’s a girl to do?
Go anyway.
They were AWESOME. Yes, I know I overuse that word, but it’s just so perfect here. These women can rock hard, and loud, and with conviction.
Even better–I got in free. That’s the beauty of being older than dirt. People don’t expect that you’re really there to see the show; they think you’re there to pick up your kids (that’s how I got to see–or hear, rather–Green Day the first time). So I spent my bucks on swag, and picked up their new CD, Bitchin’.
Even EVEN better–the show was at a total dive. The Avalon is an all ages venue that used to be a movie theater and now hosts various bands. I love the ambiance of this place–it’s run down but it has a good vibe inside. Plus, it’s a part-time church. What’s not to love?

Dig those cell phone photos.
In keeping with tradition, I called my son in the middle of the set to just let him experience it with me. (The tradition started when my sister called me during a David Bowie concert in Portland while I was in Salt Lake. That bitch. Just kidding. Not really.)
So now my son calls me during concerts, and he calls his friends, too. It’s cool, actually. And Katherine texted me during the concert, so I called her, and just held the phone up for the whole song.
The little part of my soul that died when the White Stripes canceled rejuvenated just a tiny bit tonight.
As I was leaving, I picked up a flyer for another show on November 21–Juliette and the Licks. Right on!
P.S. to Labradorable — The Donnas will be in Boston at the Paradise Rock Club on October 7. Just sayin’.

Ha! Thanks for the shout out. I was enjoying the post a whole lot and then I saw the love at the end and, what can I say? Hmmm… I think I could go to see The Donnas on October 7th. I wonder if I could bring knitting. . .
