Blog Anniversary

blogiversary-cake.pngOne year ago I started this blog. A new name, a new URL, a new persona in the blogging world.

I started my first knit blog in early 2004 under the name green-eyed grrl. It seemed at that time that knitting blogs were just starting to take off; for a very short while it was possible to follow the blogs I really enjoyed and keep up with individual bloggers’ situations and projects. It was fun while it lasted, collecting blog buttons–I still remember what a thrill it was to find my button on someone else’s blogroll. But the number of blogs online grew so fast that soon it was impossible to even try to read them all, though I still read many of my old favorites.

In 2005 I filed for divorce, and immediately my husband tried to use my blogging content against me. In fact, he included several photocopied pages from my blog in his countersuit as “evidence” of many sins, including my “liberal feminist” leanings. Blogging became less fun and my creativity was squelched knowing he was reading with bad intent, and so eventually I gave up green-eyed grrl.

But I missed blogging, and so a year ago I started Alarming Female. You can read about who, exactly, the Alarming Female is (besides me) by following the link in the upper right hand corner of the main blog page.

I’m stronger, now, and in a better place, and don’t know or care if my ex has found this new blog. The important thing is that I’ve found it. It’s good to have my voice back, and to be able to contribute to this global conversation.

So, Happy Blogoversary to Me! Cake for everyone!Get your own free Blogoversary button!

Happy Blogiversary! I have wondered about you referring to green-eyed girl in recent posts, because I’ve been concerned that your ex will find those posts, so I’m glad you’ve explained a bit.

I cannot imagine what sort of sins that you blogged about on green-eyed girl (and I was a regular reader from close to the beginning), because I missed them. But here’s to more of the same over here at Alarming Female — one more year of provoking thoughts and knitting! Cheers!
