Seraphim put to bed

seraphim.jpg

11/22: Zeneedle’s Seraphim is so beautiful, and knit from the Plum colorway of this same yarn. It’s been my inspiration. Since my Seraphim will be knit with heavier wool on bigger needles it will be nearly blanket sized–cool! Much more stylish than a parka this winter.

If I can only get past this interminable stockinette. . .122 rows, progressively bigger each right-side row to 247 sts. . .snore. . .”someday my lace will come. . .”

The yarn is lovely to knit with and so, so soft. Started on Thanksgiving Day, 2007.

UPDATE 12/6: I’m into my second skein and moving through the first lace chart. Soon I’ll be into the “real” lace knitting and that will be much more engaging. However, the stockinette is good for reading while knitting–much harder to read when one has to pay particular attention!

UPDATE 12/8: By my calculations, there are 212 rows to this shawl, and I’m on row 154. I think that makes me about halfway done (or a little more), taking into account that each row is bigger than the last. I’m solidly into the lace now, so I’m moving more quickly and having more fun!

UPDATE 12/21: I’ve run out of yarn! with only four rows to go! waaaaaa!

UPDATE 12/22: I’ve composed myself and decided to just skip most of the edge rows and call it good.

UPDATE 12/28: I ran out of yarn on row four of the edge pattern just a few stitches short of the end of the row. I tinked back that wrong side row and the next RS row and just started binding off from there.

Mim used a super-elastic bind-off that gobbles yarn, and so, OF COURSE, I ran out of yarn about a foot from the end of the bind off. SO I TINKED BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE ROW (*&%#$@&%*$#) and bound off “normally,” being extra careful to keep the bind off very loose, and now it’s ready to block. Finally.

It’s too big to block entirely on my bed, but I NO LONGER CARE. It’ll be fine. I’m sure everyone else will think it looks wonky, but I think it’s lovely. So there.

It’s really pretty and it’s done, that’s what counts. I ran out of yarn just a couple of inches in the bindoff. I found a yarn that matched close enough for the last 20 stitches or so and called it good!
