In an effort to find some sock success, I put Monkey in time out and designed my own pattern. The stitch pattern is adapted from Bauerliches Stricken 1 by Lisl Fanderl. Once I get this sock and its mate done I’ll tell you how I did it if you want to try it, too.
The pattern is called “Come Dancing” because the design reminded me of a garden gate.
Out of my window
I can see them in the moonlight
Two silhouettes saying goodnight
by the garden gate
There is a variation on the stitch pattern, which I’ll include as well. Here’s a sneak peek–

ETA: The variation is not included in the Come Dancing pattern due to time constraints. I’ll get it written up and posted as soon as I can. Look for it under the name Twinkle, Twinkle.

Posted 28 Mar 2008 at 9:10 am ¶That was my absolute favorite song in the 3rd grade. I’m still inordinately fond of it.
Now I’ll be humming to myself the rest of the day, “They put a parking lot on a piece of land…”
Posted 28 Mar 2008 at 4:26 pm ¶Also, I really dig the socks!
Posted 28 Mar 2008 at 4:26 pm ¶It appears your creative juices and fingers are dancing themselves. Nice work!
Posted 28 Mar 2008 at 11:44 pm ¶I love it. That’s a beautiful stitch pattern and I love the pattern in the second sock yarn.
Posted 29 Mar 2008 at 8:38 am ¶Oh, very, very nice! And I have to say that I thought of that Kinks song as soon as I read the title of your post. You’ve been busy, busy with that knitting — that’s a lot to accomplish on two socks with two different patterns that you’ve been designing! And I shall patiently await the final verdict on Monkey in time out.
Posted 29 Mar 2008 at 12:15 pm ¶Very pretty. But now I can’t get that song out of my head!! LOL!
Posted 29 Mar 2008 at 7:41 pm ¶Great video link, I love that song, too.
Posted 30 Mar 2008 at 7:47 pm ¶And I really like the socks, especially the little picket fence tops!
Beauty socks! The ‘come dancing’ and ‘garden gate’ references reminded me of Tess of the D’Urbervilles, where Tess first meets Angel Claire. I’d make them and think of her.
Your work is beautiful!
