We could use a little spring around here

Sundara Sock Yarn in Green Tea, Blush, Guava, Plum

Sundara Sock Yarn

What with waking up to snow this morning and blah scheduled for the entire week, one must do what one can to brighten one’s existence, no? My, but I sound pretentious.

These four colors of Sundara Sock Yarn greeted me over the weekend (the snowy, wet weekend) and while they were chosen, primarily, because they were the colors available, the combination was just so pleasing to my eyes I had to photograph them together. Aren’t they gorgeous? They may forgo their destinies as socks and find a way to work together in a shawl. Hmm. (As our friend Pooh used to say, “Thinking, thinking, thinking. . .”) Maybe they’ll just laze about as a bouquet for awhile, until spring does actually show up.

The process for acquiring Sundara yarn is somewhat akin to the quest for the Holy Grail. It may be my computer, but the site seems to load very slowly. It’s probably due to the plethora of gorgeous photos. The colors are, quite simply, jaw droppingly beautiful—saturated, intense, amazing.

So you gnaw your fingernails waiting for the photos to load, and as they begin to appear you realize that most of the glorious colors are “temporarily unavailable.” On the sock yarn page, of the thirty-five yarns listed (with photos for all but a couple) only seven colors are really available. Actually, only seven colors are theoretically available—you can’t order online in real time; you have to send your request via email and hope for the best. Not knowing what I might end up with, I put in my request and waited for the PayPal invoice. By the time it came, a day or so later, I’d nearly forgotten what I’d ordered, and just felt honored to be able to get any of the elusive beauties.

My first efforts with Sundara have nearly resulted in a finished sock—see?* What’s taking her so damn long, Carole might ask. Good question! Well, I’ve had to rip back a couple of times (this designing gig is hard work!) and then there was the night I lost a needle at the porn debate (did I mention the porn debate?) and I like to get a little bit of spinning in once in awhile, since Warren was so kind as to give me some beautiful roving to practice on, and. . .well, you know how it goes.

*Notice clever photo with rough draft of post in the background–tricky, tricky.

Excuse me while I go off to indulge in some yarn petting. Come here, my pretties.

I have yet to score any Sundara sock yarn. You’re right, it’s like the Holy Grail! And the colors you have are gorgeous and so is the sock.

I know what you mean about Sundara yarn, but I didn’t realize it was actually so difficult to buy it. I’ve been fortunate to have bought a few skeins without realizing how lucky I was to get them. I love her yarn, the colors and the yarn itself, so I know you are going to enjoy all of it.
