I learned something new today

and, truly, I’m feeling quite stupid.

So I learned that ssk is exactly the same as k2tog tbl. This just dawned on me today as I was working a lace pattern from the book Omas Strickgeheimnisse and wondering why she never uses ssk and only k2tog tbl and then, DUH.

And I only know this because I’ve been painstakingly translating all her German instructions, so you’d think I’m really not that stupid, but—you’d be wrong. I have further evidence.

“Are you faster?” I’d say that’s a safe bet. Can you beat 1772289/1772289?

WTF?

I realized that I’d typed with entire thing with CAPS LOCK on, but still–it’s a little harsh, don’t you think?

Carole said my blogging “raised her consciousness.” I don’t think she was referring to posts such as today’s.

Well. You may have raised other people’s consciousness about ssk. I already knew that, though. :-)

What? You think you need to know everything there is to know? I didn’t think anyone could know it all.

I did’nt know that about my friend ssk. Although, I do Margene’s little s1 as if to p, s1 as if to knit and then k through the back loops, so I can’t just take the easy way out! :)

Yeah, I didn’t know that. In fact, I am still questioning if that is true. Must go see if you are right…

Not to be contrary, but they’re not exactly the same. The k2tog tbl twists both the stitches; the ssk untwists them so the resulting stitch is flatter.

She is, however, always right - of course.

I’m so relieved to find out that someone else thinks that they are basically the same thing. I always get a guilty little charge from doing k2tbl, thinking that some people will say it’s wrong but almost no one will really actually notice. It’s a silly way of feeling like a I got away with something, but it works. Oh, and it’s like 3 times faster.

Hi - how’re you going with the Oma’s translation? I’d love to see where you’ve got to with it…

And I use K2togTBL instead of SSK all the time, agree it’s more or less the same and SO MUCH LESS HASSLE at least for me!
