L is for Les Paul

Les Paul at the Iridium Jazz Club, New York City

In what can only be described as a brush with greatness, as well as an opportunity of a lifetime (pardon the cliches, but I’m otherwise at a loss for words–heh) my DS and I spent a couple of hours last Monday night truly basking in the genius of the man who “made the sound of rock and roll possible.”

Les Paul is an amazing individual with astounding achievements. Besides his innovations to the electric guitar, he pioneered multi-track recording. At 93, he has the wit and humor of a man in his prime, and he worked the crowd like the pro he is.

Here’s a photo of my DS, far right, and of Les Paul in the background, to give you an idea of the intimacy of the venue–

There were maybe six or seven people between us and the stage.

We had many adventures in NYC, but this was, for me, at the very top of the list. I’ll never forget this night.
