This was an iffy shot to attempt. These two women, whom I presume to be twin sisters, were making their way up the hill toward the corner where I was standing. They were such a compelling site, for so many reasons, that I wanted to capture this image, but it’s bad form, of course, to blatantly photograph someone head on without permission. I’m not the paparazzi, after all, but the opportunity was so fleeting, and the subject so compelling.
James was mortified that I went for the nonchalant “scenic” shot, attempting to seem as if I were photographing the entire landscape instead of the portrait. The women were not fooled; in turn, they each smiled toward the camera.
As they reached the top of the sidewalk and came around the corner, still hugging the wall, I stepped out of their way with an awkward “excuse me.” They both looked at me directly, beamed, and the one nearest me said, “have a nice evening.” Then they walked a few more steps and entered our hotel, the Grosvenor Suites.
Perhaps I’ll have an opportunity to see them again, and ask more politely if I might take their photograph.

What a beautiful post, Laurie. I love the photo—they’re lovely.
You were supposed to have this encounter, you know. Even if only to embarass James.
Looks like you’re having a great time.

Maybe because they are local colour then should expect to be photographed? Just so darn adorable!

Enjoy your time in the city!
