Koigu Beaded Bags
I’ve knit four of these Koigu beaded bags and still love to make them. They take only one skein of Koigu KPPPM and 660 beads (900 beads for the one on the top left). I can make one in a couple of days and have twice given them as gifts. [...]
So yesterday I attended my godson’s graduation from Murray High School. My son and I sat halfway up the oval at the far end in what was basically a gymnasium made over for a graduation of 400 or so high school seniors. Good thing I had my knitting; it was destined to be [...]
Hello, friends. I have another FREE new pattern available for you to try if you like.
It’s called “Fluke”—doesn’t the lace look like a whale’s fluke? I love it for that very reason. That’s why I chose the dark gray, as well. I’ve seen a whale fluking just once off the Oregon [...]
From the Deseret News–
It was a quiet morning at the Salt Lake City Recorder’s Office. There were no celebrations or crowds waiting for the doors to open at 8 a.m.
But at 8:20, two women entered the office saying they wanted to sign the city’s new Mutual Commitment Registry.
When acting recorder Chris Meeker told Brandie Balken [...]
Leave it to Ellen Degeneres to respond to Sally Kern with grace and humor–
The original video has had nearly a million views since it was first posted to YouTube on March 11. Sally Kern is a hateful and dangerous woman, especially in her position as an elected official.

From the New York Times yesterday (via boingboing), a tribute to Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax, who died last week. The accompanying article’s discussion on how D&D informs our world is, perhaps, the most lucid explanation of geek culture I’ve ever read.
We live in Gary Gygax’s world. The most popular books on [...]

William and I decided to venture into unfamiliar territory and greet the solstice sunrise. Carefully checking our Internets, we learned that sunrise would occur at 7:48 am in Salt Lake City, and so stumbled out of bed and into the pre-dawn 13 degree darkness to seek the light.
Seven forty-eight my ass. [...]
In the September 20 issue of Rolling Stone magazine this (oddly constructed) cable sweater makes an appearance on the requisite androgynous model.
Hmmm.
Also in this issue, Matt Taibbi, not known for pulling punches, had this to say about Mitt Romney:
Romney is an utter tool; he represents nothing so much as the very banality of our [...]
This is SWEET. From Slate.com (via Boing Boing) Jessica Vitkus, author of Alternacrafts, makes the following awesome statement:
Presidential candidates take note: Knitting is no longer a hobby. It’s a lifestyle.
Yay-yeh! It’s just what we’ve been pining for–political clout. And according to Vitkus, we’ve got it:
Forget NASCAR dads and security moms—it’s the craft [...]
This ornamental grass grows next to my sister’s pond in Gresham, Oregon. It’s stunningly beautiful. The colors are so vibrant; every year when I return it’s one of the first things I see and it always gives me a lift. It’s called blood grass.
It’s name reminds me of a film short that [...]
